Insights: Amado V. Hernandez

Amado V. Hernandez, is a well- known revolutionary artist because of his poetry, fiction and plays in Filipino. Born on September 13, 1903 in Tondo, Manila. He started as a journalist in the twenties when the Filipino's resistance towards US Military has declined. He's known for his active participation through his literature and his political involvement. He served for the resistance in World War II as an intelligence officer: collecting, compiling and analyzing informations which is used in that organization. His involvement and participation can be reflected through his life, works and writing. It could also be an account through his wife Honorota "Atang" dela Rama who's a zarzuela actress and queen of kundiman. He was posthumously honoured as our National Artist for Literature in 1973. Together with poet Jose Garcia Villa, Amado V. Hernandez was the first to receive the title in literature.

Despite the constant development of our country's society his works remains relevant. His view of being a writer is a function to act as a voice of society and to insist the greatness of the human spirit in facing inequity and oppression. Hernandez really caught the view of how the oppressed feels. The power of his literary art, an influential instrument in constituting reform and empowerment.

In our Generation today, we have the chance to voice out our insights, feelings and wants in easy ways but without those freedom fighters like Hernandez we could still be imprisoned as voiceless people towards those who oppress us. Having different ways to express what we want to say especially now that we have internet we could easily go to social media sites. Let us open our eyes to the things that are around us and let’s be responsible and be a voice to help others. Using our skills and talents we must bring our society up not putting it down.
